Attorney General Met with FBI Director Comey to Discuss Email Probe

With the polls narrowing as Donald Trump has been solidifying his support among Republican identifiers, it may be hard to determine exactly what effect this news will have upon the election, but it alone will probably not be sufficient to overcome the lead that Clinton appeared to have before the news broke.

In a similar survey last week, Clinton was leading Trump by 46 per cent to 45 per cent, and a little more than a week ago, the former first lady was enjoying a 12-point lead (50 per cent to 38 per cent) over the controversial billionaire.

The analyst said there is "a lot of stability" in USA voting patterns "despite the weirdness of the campaign", where Clinton and Trump have for months both claimed the other is unfit to become the US commander in chief and voters hold unfavorable opinions about both of them.

Sixty percent of likely voters hold unfavorable views of Trump, while 57 percent have similar views of Clinton, according to the poll.

Mrs Clinton's figure was down by eight points.

Republicans have thrown everything that they can think of at Hillary Clinton, and nothing has stopped her. Hillary Clinton and her supporters continue to grow stronger, while Donald Trump is marching back into reality television star C-list celebrity obscurity.

The US presidential election will take place on November 8.

According to the FBI's summary of their April interview with Abedin, she told agents that after she left the State Department in 2013, Clinton's staff transitioned to a different email server and she "lost most of her old emails as a result".

Democrats have seen through Comey's letter and the Republican spin.

Comey said in a memo to the FBI staff that he had to notify lawmakers because he had previously told them the investigation was complete.

Clinton, who had been riding high in opinion polls in recent weeks as Trump was hit by fallout from the release of a 2005 video in which he bragged in vulgar terms of groping women, now finds herself on the defensive.

If that were to happen, Trump's gain compared to Romney in 2012 would not be enough to overtake Clinton.

Democratic surrogates including President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, husband and former president Bill Clinton, running mate Tim Kaine and primary opponent Bernie Sanders were fanning out across battleground states to stump for votes.

At the White House, spokesman Josh Earnest said he would neither defend nor criticise the timing of Comey's disclosure.

The Clinton campaign has criticised FBI Director James Comey for "blatant double standards" over its new inquiry into Mrs Clinton's email use.

If the Federal Bureau of Investigation finds emails Abedin sent or received through the clintonemail.com server archived on the device recently recovered from her home, that might appear to conflict with what she told the Federal Bureau of Investigation earlier this year.
