Buffalo Bills Lose Second Game in a Row

Gronkowski's five-catch, 109-yard performance came in addition to his usual solid blocking work, as he played every snap but two until the outcome was decided late in the fourth quarter.

There was no pregame drama between the teams in warmups and there was little in the game once it began. The Patriots improve to 7-1 on the season and will have their bye week coming up.

Bills miscues turned into opportunities for the Patriots early on.

Buffalo's Brandon Tate dropped what would have been a sure completion and first down on a pass from Tyrod Taylor in the first quarter.

BEST MILESTONE: Rob Gronkowski set franchise records for most touchdowns (69) and most touchdown receptions (68) with a 53-yard catch and run from Brady in the second quarter.

Gronkowski broke a tie with wide receiver Stanley Morgan in only his seventh National Football League season. In the first half, the Patriots threw for 209-yards while rushing the ball for only 20 yards, on the flip side the Bills put up over 90-yards on the ground while barely eclipsing 100 yards passing. Brady took a huge hit but connected to a wide open Julian Edelman down the middle to the Bills 1.

But that hardly phased Brady.

-Buffalo climbed back into the game after a pass interference penalty and a 25-yard reception by Reggie Bush set up 1-and-goal. Mike Gillislee pinballed his way into the end zone from three yards out for a touchdown to cut the Patriots lead to four midway through the second quarter (14-10).

But as the Patriots have done time and time again with Brady, they struck back in lightning-quick fashion, and it took just four plays.

On the 53-yard score, Gronkowski ran past Bills cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman down the seam. Brady threaded a ideal pass to hit Gronkowski in full stride at the Bills' 30. The touchdown was Gronkowski's 69th of his career, moving him past Stanley Morgan for the most in franchise history. With a lack of playmakers, they were unable to move the ball much. His attempt at the gun also hit the upright but caromed through to give the Patriots a 24-10 lead. It pushed the Patriots lead to 31-10 just a minute into the third quarter. With the Patriots recording 357 yards and 21 first downs, the stats of the game told a different story than the final score, but the Patriots did a better job of finishing their drives. When Taylor ran past an onrushing Hightower, there was nothing but green turf in front of him.

The Bills racked up 84 yards on 12 penalties, while New England picked up 87 on 9 penalties. "He makes great plays in the pass game - down the field, intermediate, short - and he's tough to tackle". Jimmy Garoppolo entered the game with 4:29 left.
